EFFECT OF CRACK GROWTH RESISTANCE UPON FRACTURE OF CERAMIC/POLYMER GRADED INTERFACES by Mark Hoffman, Christoph Deneke and Lyndal Kidson Abstract A crack initiated perpendicular to a stiffness gradient deflects as it propagates due to inherent mode mixity. A model experiment, finite element modelling and an analytical model are used to shown that when crack bridging occurs that the extent of crack deflection may be reduced. |
