Abstract

Porous MnxZn1-xFe2O4 where x = 0.1, 0.5 and 0.9 was prepared from wood templates and magnetic properties were investigated. Cedar and Balsa wood with different size of pores were use as a template. The wood templates were infiltrated with Mn, Zn and Fe nitrate slurry and then sintered at 1200 degC for 10h in argon atmosphere to prevent segregation of a -Fe2O3. XRD pattern revealed that single phase of ferrite formed. The original shape and the microstructure of wood retained. The sintered bodies were one- directional elongated pores as wood structure. These shape caused the unequal magnetization at parallel and perpendicular directions. The coercivity in perpendicular with pores orientation was larger than that in parallel with pores orientation. The parallel direction of pores was easily magnetized.
